Prishtina in 2018 will not be a city. It will be a mid size political banner. In 2008 the destruction of everything that reminds you of its Yugoslav past and its Yugoslav occupation is still underway. Architecture of power erases not only our occupiers and memories of them but us, too. Architecture of power destroys schools for building cathedrals and churches; it destroys old barbershops for building flashy monuments for marking personalities of independence and sending slogans in US Standard English that 90% of Kosovar independent population doesn’t understand. NEWBORN is a large text based landscape oriented metal ornament done by a marketing agency for the government that media call “an obelisk of independence”; a yellow colored space where leaders and folk were placing their signatures on the night of the declaration of independence, as if they were the ones who did this.
