The term Balkanisation describes the process of geopolitical fragmentation of hostile entities. It is used today in English language to connote any kind of dissolution across the world in order to sustain unity. If globalization represents the increasing unification through convergent processes of economic, political, and cultural change, then Balkanisation is a counter-action to the integrating and homogenizing effects of globalization. That means that the term, Balkanisation could truly shift the meaning of the originally negative term into a constructive one.
